Between the ongoing opioid crisis and all of the ways that the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted students and families, educators’ number one learning need for the 2021-2022 school year is supporting students experiencing trauma. Fortunately, our partners at REL Appalachia are offering a two-day online learning opportunity on the topic this summer.
Attendees will hear from national experts, state administrators, and front-line educators and learn about strategies for supporting educator and student well-being and learning, including best practices, tools, and resources. We hope you will join REL Appalachia on August 16-17, 11:00am – 4:00pm EDT.
Objectives for the Virtual Summit:
- Develop a shared understanding among stakeholders across multiple agencies and organizational levels about the urgent importance of addressing student and educator trauma in K–12 education settings, particularly within the REL AP region.
- Provide information about evidence-based practices, strategies, and tools to support students and educators experiencing trauma.
- Encourage attendees to develop action plans to make concrete, meaningful, and sustainable steps toward supporting educators and students with comprehensive, trauma-informed services.

Who should attend?
Anyone is welcome to attend the event, but the primary audience will be those working with students and educators experiencing trauma, including policymakers, state and local education agency staff, school staff (including administrators, school-based mental health providers, teachers, resource specialists, and support staff), community-based providers, and researchers and technical assistance (TA) specialists.
